Direct answer
The introduction argues for a ledger of deals between identified institutions, where the parties to a deal hold the data, rather than a global broadcast of every transaction.
R3's later page says the 2018 paper, The Corda Platform: An Introduction, supersedes this one. The historic library file is the introductory paper. It is not a public cryptocurrency.
Why it is in the corpus
- It is the document to cite when a venture says blockchain and means a shared record among known firms.
- Privacy in this paper is about who is shown the deal. It is not a zero-knowledge payment design.
Where to read
- Official source — ResearchGate record of the August 2016 introduction
- Legacy library pathThe old URL stays. It is served from the Internet Archive copy of the previous site.

Full text
Full text is not published on this page. Public availability is not a licence to republish a document. Blockchain Lab has not recorded a licence that permits an HTML transcription, a training set, or a retrieval corpus of the paper. Text on this page is Blockchain Lab's own wording, or a pointer to a study that is also Blockchain Lab's wording.
Claims and assumptions
Blockchain Lab's reading of what the document is doing. Not a quotation and not the source text.
- State is shared between the parties to an agreement, not with every node.
- Identity of the participants is part of the setting. Open membership is not the goal.
- The paper presents itself as a high-level introduction. A technical paper was promised beside it.
Assumptions
- Participants can be identified and, where needed, held to an agreement off the ledger as well as on it.
- A notary, or some uniqueness service, is part of preventing a double spend. The introduction is not the full protocol.
What changed
R3 states that the 2018 platform paper supersedes Corda: An Introduction. Corda as shipped is a later system. The DOI 10.13140/RG.2.2.30487.37284 identifies the ResearchGate upload. It does not transfer copyright.
Relationships
- Superseded, on R3's account, byThe Corda Platform: An Introduction (2018)
- ConceptDistributed ledger
- Different architecture fromBitcoin's open broadcast chain
- Different from a later paper in this libraryKadena Chainweb, which is not the 2016 private-chain note
Construct with this
A pattern link for people designing a system. It is not a claim that this paper is a product specification, and it is not permission to copy anyone’s code.
